TREATMENT OF TEMPOROMANBIDULAR JOINT

The best way to avoid dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system is to use dental prophylaxis, which will prevent the occurrence of tooth cavities. Bearing in mind our patients' wellness, we pay thorough attention to their health problems and provide them with specialist advice in such fields of dentistry as: implantology, prosthetic dentistry, dental surgery and preventive dentistry for children and adults. We put a lot of emphasis to diagnostics of motorical dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system.

The patients' rising awareness, combined with the regular appearance of newer and better courses of casual treatment of these conditions enable us to prevent and treat troublesome conditions of temporomandibular joint and headaches resulting from irradiation of masseter muscle and joints overload. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more popular for dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system to cause headaches in children. This is why we pay a lot of attention to the prophylaxis and treatment of bruxism. Because bruxism and malocclusion resulting from wrong dentures or lack of teeth are the main causes of dysfunctions of the temporomandibular joints, properly conducted function tests of the stomatognathic system allow us to detect those dysfunctions in their early preclinical stages.

In order to minimize the waiting time and considerably reduce unpleasant manipulations in the patient's mouth we use a special splint made of Erkodur, which takes load off the ailing temporomandibular joint.

Originally designed to be a relaxing splint, it can be transformed into a therapeutic repositioning splint. Dysfunctions of the temporomandibular joints are accompanied by "acoustic symptoms". In case of patients suffering from bruxism, masseter muscles (which control movements in the temporomandibular joint) are tense on one side and impair the functioning of this joint. As a result, various cracks and displacements occur while chewing food and yawning. Long-term tension of these muscles can lead to the disc dislocation of the temporomandibular joint, which - when the patient is unconsciously clenching his teeth, e.g. while sleeping - may make it impossible for him to open his mouth more than 2cm.
